ZOOM – STEP BY STEP GUIDE

 

FIRST TIME INSTALLATION OF ZOOM

  1. It is recommended that the Setup is done in advance, in case you need to go through personal preferences in General Settings
  2. Either go to https://zoom.us OR click on the invitation link (you may be asked to use a different browser for Zoom to work on, so follow the directions to deal with that first).
  3. Next follow the download instructions (this will also come up when using a new device): click on Resources in top right corner, then on Download, then Download client for meetings option, then click on Download button and Allow
  4. You may wish to Click on each of the Options in Settings and set up your preferences by ticking the boxes as you would like them (you can always change them if you need to later)
  5. The system allows you to check the video and audio settings to make sure everything is working ok (you might have to go into your own device settings to make some adjustments)
  6. Ask a friend to help you check it’s all working ok, by setting up a meeting with them (optional)
  7. The above assumes that you have either an inbuilt camera and microphone, or add-ons

READY TO JOIN MEETING

  1. Click on the invitation link which takes you to the Join a Meeting page, you will be offered JOIN OPTIONS at this point to give you one more opportunity to choose whether you want to have yourself MUTED and / or SCREEN VIDEO OFF
  2. Then click JOIN – the Meeting ID link takes you to either a ‘Waiting Room’ or direct into the ‘Meeting Room’
  3. At any time if you’re having broadband issues, refresh your browser and re-join the meeting

SMART TOP TIPS FOR ALL ZOOM USERS

  1. Be prepared: get a glass of water, tissues, and check the chair/ sofa is comfortable
  2. Copy the invitation link (Meeting ID and password) into your Notes folder, for quick reference
  3. When you join the meeting, ensure lights are in front of you, otherwise you are a silhouette
  4. If you lose sight of the Zoom window, look for the blue Zoom icon either at the bottom of your screen or a black Zoom icon at the top and click on that to take you to your active window
  5. Let others know that you are going to be participating in an online event and that you are not to be disturbed
